What does the V mean in HQQV?

The final V identifies the elastomer material as FKM, commonly known by the trade name Viton. This differs from an E suffix, which would indicate EPDM elastomers.

Will this fit my CR, CRI or CRN pump?

Can I use this instead of a different seal code?

Do not assume interchangeability from pump size alone. Different shaft seal codes use different seal-face materials, elastomers and construction types. The replacement seal should normally match the original seal code unless the pump duty has been reviewed and an alternative seal has been correctly selected.

What liquids is this suitable for?

Suitability depends on the pump materials, liquid temperature, pressure, concentration and chemical compatibility. The HQQV seal uses silicon carbide / silicon carbide faces and FKM elastomers, so it should only be used where the pumped liquid is compatible with those materials and the pump’s wetted parts.

For chemically treated water, process liquids, glycol blends, oils, aggressive liquids or high-temperature duties, the seal selection should be checked against Grundfos guidance before installation.

Can this be used with glycol?

It may be suitable for some glycol duties, but this should not be assumed without checking the exact glycol type, concentration, inhibitor package, temperature and pressure. Glycol can increase viscosity, affect seal-face lubrication and alter pump performance.

Can a mechanical shaft seal run dry?

No. Mechanical shaft seals for liquids rely on a thin lubricating film between the seal faces. Running the pump dry, or without proper liquid at the seal faces, can quickly damage the seal.
